Alcoholic Liver Disease
Excessive alcohol consumption causes more than 60% of chronic liver diseases in Western countries. This editorial illustration depicts the pathology of alcoholic liver disease — its etiology, pathogenesis, morphologic changes, and clinical significance.

PRE-PRODUCTION
I started by jotting down the steps of the disease — this gave me a better sense of its temporal and spatial progression. As I began writing copy, I explored visual content and technique through preparatory studies (e.g., tissue cubes and landscapes).
CONTENT REVIEW
I created a comprehensive draft of the illustration using Procreate and Figma. Once I was happy with the text-visual balance as well as pathos of the piece, I sent the draft off for scientific review.
PRODUCTION
Through colour studies, I discovered a palette that conveyed the appropriate emotions for this piece. The colours also added to the composition by separating cellular aspects on the left of the spread from clinical aspects on the right. The final illustration was rendered in Procreate and compiled in Illustrator.
